COUNTDOWN TO INAUGURAL COOKSTOVES FUTURE SUMMIT!
Less than a month remains until the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves’ inaugural Cookstoves Future Summit! This event marks the first high-level committment making Summit to convene the international community around a publically-stated global goal/effort to reduce household air pollution from the use of traditional cookstoves and open fires, and mobilize the resources to accelerate the adoption of cleaner and more efficient cooking solutions.
The Summit will be held on November 20 & 21 at the Conrad New York, and will convene 250 participants for a day of informative panels and plenary sessions, a clean cooking innovation exhibit, and an invitation-only ministerial-level committment event. Former U.S. Secretary of State and Alliance Leadership Council Honorary Chair Hillary Rodham Clinton will co-host the event along with British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development Lynne Featherstone, Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende, Ghanaian Foreign Minister Hannah Tetteh, and US Agency for International Development Administrator Rajiv Shah serving as co-hosts.
Participants will include high-level leaders from donor and implementing governments, the private sector, the investment community, international organizations, international financial institutions, civil society and the media.
More than two dozen ministers and more than twenty leaders from the corporate, non-profit, and investment communities have already signaled their intention to make specific and significant commitments on Day Two of the Summit and lend their voice for bold action to address the use of solid fuels for cooking. The Alliance will also be releasing its Phase II strategic roadmap and showcasing many of the latest cooking technologies and clean fuels at a curated exhibit on site. We will be sharing frequent updates of the Summit agenda on the event website www.cookstovesfuturesummit.org and featuring commitments at the conclusion of the Summit.
