Hugh Jackman’s Laughing Man Foundation Partners with the Alliance for Giving Tuesday
Four million children, women, and men die each year from diseases associated with the toxic smoke cooking over open fires. This year, on #GivingTuesday, Hugh Jackman’s Laughing Man Foundation gave support to the Alliance’s work to promote clean cooking solutions in the developing world.
Jackman recently traveled to Ethiopia to see firsthand the impacts of extreme poverty. As part of his trip, he learned about the health and environmental impacts of cooking with solid fuels over open fires while visiting the home of a coffee farmer named Dukale. Inspired by Dukale’s story, Jackman launched Laughing Man Coffee to provide a marketplace for farmers in developing countries to sell their goods to consumers in the U.S. That's why on Giving Tuesday the Alliance was pleased to announce support from Hugh Jackman’s Laughing Man Foundation and the fair trade coffee stores they operate in New York City.
The Laughing Man Foundation is working to raise awareness and improve health standards for women and children in rural Ethiopia by providing access to clean cookstoves and medical supplies.
The Laughing Man Coffee Campaign encouraged supporters to take the following actions on #Giving Tuesday 2015:
1 – Visit a Laughing Man café and buy a bag of coffee. Laughing Man donated $1.00 per bag to the Alliance. Buying a large drink triggered a $.50 donation to Alliance programs.
Things you can do anytime:
2 – Download the documentary, Dukale’s Dream, to see the effect of clean cooking.
