Consultant – Local Financial Institutions & Clean Energy Finance (Kenya)
Job Description:
Power Up Kenya is hiring a consultant to assess the role of local financial institutions (LFIs) in financing clean cooking and productive use of renewable energy (PURE) in Kenya. The study will analyze financing flows, barriers, and opportunities within LFIs—including banks, SACCOs, and microfinance institutions—and offer practical strategies to scale investment in these sectors.
Scope of work includes:

Mapping and profiling LFIs involved in clean energy finance

Reviewing financing models, flows, barriers, and gaps (2021–2025)

Engaging stakeholders through interviews and focus group discussions
-
Recommending improvements to finance flows and leveraging international financing mechanisms

Delivering a final assessment report, validation presentation, and policy brief
Qualifications:

Proven experience in renewable energy or climate finance

Deep understanding of Kenya’s energy and finance policy landscape

Strong research, analysis, and writing skills
-
Familiarity with Kenya’s financial regulatory environment and local institutions
