Clean Cooking Activities

ECO2's energy efficient cookstove division (Stoves for Life) distributes and installs upesi stoves to rural households in Western Kenya and tackles the social and environmental problems resulting from collecting and consuming forest wood for cooking. Upesi stoves are locally made, affordable, cut down wood consumption by approximately fifty percent (50%), and replace the traditional three-stone cooking in households around Kakamega Forest and the entire Western region of Kenya.

Through a decade of research and customer feedback, ECO2 has launched two stove technologies in addition to Upesi stove namely: Berkeley Darfur Stove; a versatile portable stove that uses both Charcoal and wood fuel and an Institutional Stove Technology (ISS) aimed at meeting the needs of institutions such as schools and hospitals by transitioning them to a more efficient cook stove technology.

Partnership

Stoves for Life Enterprise will contribute immeasurably to the Alliance’s goal of enabling 100 million households around the world to adopt clean cookstoves by the year 2020. With more than 100,000 efficient cook stoves already installed in Kenya, we hope to share the vast field, technical, and logistical experience that was gained with installing more than 100,000 stoves both in the field and in our databases. ECO2 through the Stoves For Life Project intends to continue the growth, expertise, and efficiency of the clean cooking sector and would be interested in learning more about efficient and cleaner cookstoves options around the world. In addition, through attending of seminars, workshops, and conferences convened by the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, Stoves for Life intends to engage in consultations, build constructive partnerships with other organizations, share smart ideas, and access possible funding opportunities.
