Radha’s Message for May 2014

Dear Friends,

This has been a month of intensive and productive travel, dialogue, events and outreach for me and my colleagues. It is always stimulating and enlightening to interact with the broad group of partners, supporters and practitioners that together form the dynamic and growing clean cooking community across the world.

My travels in May ranged from a review of clean cooking health, environment, and climate benefits with global leaders in London, to the launch of an innovative partnership with the UN Refugee agency in Geneva, to a national conference in China to build momentum for public-private collaboration to advance clean cooking solutions in the country.

This edition of the newsletter highlights these and other areas of Alliance work in research, health, partnerships, sector investments, cleaner technologies and fuels, as well as emerging cooperation to improve the quality of life for refugees and other vulnerable people through the use of clean cooking and household energy solutions.

Of note are preliminary findings of the China market assessment that investigates consumer attitudes and opinions about the clean cooking sector across the country’s expansive rural landscape. The study raises pertinent questions for market development inside and outside the country. The findings will inform planning for clean cooking policies and initiatives in China, and can be instructive to global efforts and potential South-South collaboration for wider adoption of clean household cookstoves and fuels.

As always, I am energized and excited by such travels, and the chance to read through these articles that document and share our substantive work as partners. I hope it is the same for you.

Best regards,

Radha
