Organization

CEFT (Centre for Environment Friendly Technologies)

Mission

Established in 1998, Centre for Environment Friendly Technologies (CEFT) is committed towards promotion of clean energy, clean environment and sustainable development. CEFT develops innovative solutions to enable efficient use and conservation of conventional sources of energy.

CEFT has identified ‘domestic cooking' as an important area for promotion and implementation of clean energy solutions. After over 15 years of research and interaction with intended users, CEFT has successfully developed two types of highly efficient clean combustion cookstoves. These cookstoves work on natural draft and forced draft mode and are used for domestic as well as community cooking purposes. Clean combustion cookstoves developed by CEFT are an economic alternate to traditional cookstoves and also ensures lower consumption of fuel, reduction in harmful emissions and safeguards the health of women and children.

In the year 2010, CEFT was registered as a trust having its main objects as research and development of renewable energy technologies, conservation and efficient use of energy in an environment friendly and economical manner. To achieve its objects, CEFT conducts trainings, workshops and seminars at national and international levels, with specific emphasis on providing economic and clean energy solutions to the rural population.®  Promotion of social welfare, intellectual advancement, environmental protection, pollution control, imparting of technical knowledge and education are some of the key focus areas of CEFT.

CEFT, an organization authorized by Government of India, has been constructing biogas plants for rural communities since 1998. Recently, CEFT has expanded its operations to promote the use of biomass briquettes, which helps reduce consumption of fossil fuels and emission of green house gases.

Clean Cooking Activities

About 3 billion people of the world population are using biomass cook stoves. These cookstoves work at a poor efficiency and emits harmful pollutants, which affects the health of the women and children. In India about 67 % of households depended on solid biomass to meet their cooking energy requirement.®  This figure is higher to the order of 85% while considering India can be classified into five zones according to the variation in the food habit.®

Even though the forced draft cookstove performs much better than the traditional cookstoves (works on natural draft) the forced draft cookstoves are too expensive and beyond the affordability of a larger community.®  Hence, it is essential to have a natural draft cookstove which is affordable and performs closer to the forced draft cookstove.®  Recently CEFT has developed an innovative natural draft cookstove which has a built in chimney to enhance the natural draft, created by the temperature difference between the combustion chamber and ambient. The enhanced natural draft cookstove improves the combustion process and reduce the fuel consumption and emissions.®

An improved forced draft cookstove for domestic cooking applications was developed by CEFT. The forced draft cookstove developed by CEFT is working at an efficiency of 40-42%. The cookstove works at 36% during cold-start high-power phase, at 40% during hot-start high-power phase. The efficiency is about 50-55% during the simmering phase. The turndown ratio of the cookstove is about 3.7. the forced draft cookstove works on a 5V, 1 W DC fan which helps to reduce the power pack cost, as compared to other forced draft cook stove. ®

Partnership

CEFT would like to participate in the partnership in the following areas:

Design and Development of forced draft /natural draft for clean combustion cookstoves with increased efficiency.

Testing, improvement ® and customisation ® of clean combustion cookstoves .

Capacity building and Training for manufacturers.

Capacity building and Training programme for user group.

Establishment of supply chain in place for large scale dissemination of cookstove and fuel supply.

Entrepreneurs development.

Facilitation of micro financing for large scale dissemination of clean combustion cookstoves.

Material and cost optimisation for improved ® cookstoves.

Design and Development of new generation cookstoves ® using thermo electric generator or liquid bio fuel (Bio-oil)®

Professional have experience related to design aspects including ® combustion engineering, Heat transfer, Thermodynamics,Material Science .
CEFT also have professionals experience in capacity building, training programme, conducting workshop,Supply chain management.

CEFT can contribute working together with the Global alliance for clean cook stoves with it's mission for 100 million homes to adopt clean and efficient stoves.
