Clean Cooking Activities

We make carbonised black cylindrical flammable briquettes by recycling agricultural waste in partnership with the community. The raw material for our briquette production is dried organic solid waste. It comprises of agricultural residues such as food peelings, sawdust, maize cobs, coffee husks, etc which we collect in large quantities from farms, carpenters and maize mills, from garbage collectors, from waste scavengers at the landfill and from the neighbourhood.

Our briquettes have the following attributes;
• They have a durable fire twice the burning time for ordinary charcoal.
• They are cleaner and of uniform shape
• They do not emit smoke
• Briquettes save the forest cover as they do not require the cutting down of trees as in the case of charcoal.

Partnership

We would like to make a contribution in the following ways:

Environment and Health: Through managing and processing waste we make productive fuel out of otherwise useless by products. Use of briquettes does not contribute to deforestation and land degradation like traditional firewood and charcoal consumption. The Environment is also cleaned in the process

Creation of employment opportunities: We engage women and youths in the collection of waste and the production and distribution of briquettes. This gives them a source of livelihood and income, and averts the violence that would otherwise result from their idleness.

Efficiency: Our briquettes give customers certainty so that they are able to manage their budgets. They are consistent in in size and shape and ready to use upon purchase, so the same amount of energy is delivered during each use, unlike firewood which can vary in size, moisture content and temperature making it difficult to determine how much fuel is needed.
Reduced Cost of living: The Raw materials for briquetting are abundant in the neighbourhood and productive use of them could save on the cost of waste disposal for individuals and the authorities. The waste disposal costs can be saved and put to other use by the individuals.
