Adelante Foundation Inc

Mission

Adelante®´s mission is to improve the standard of living of the poorest of the poor Honduran women and their families primarily through microfinance and education.

Organizational Expertise

Capacity Building, Finance / Investment, Gender / Womens Empowerment, Health, Livelihoods, Monitoring and Evaluation

Other Organizational Expertise

Adelante's institutional indicators reflect over 10 years of experience and dedication serving the rural poor.® Our combination of microfinance and small business education ensures that our clients become successful entrepreneurs and our consistent 97% repayment rate proves it. In 2010, Adelante became operationally self-sustainable proving it is possible to provide microfinance in remote areas® while maintaining a® socially minded mission.

Technologies & Fuels

Solar

Other Technologies Fuels

Adelante's® clients® use mainly wood, electric or gas stoves. However, Adelante is interested in other fuels as long as they are practical, feasible and affordable® for our clients.®

Clean Cooking Activities

Adelante is currently implementing a survey across all five branch offices to gauge interest and need for® clean cookstoves® among our clientele. The survey is based on stoves developed® and distributed by organizations® operating within Honduras. The eco-stoves are cleaner and more efficient wood stoves than traditional clay stoves. The project will be implemented in areas where clients do not have access to electric or gas stoves.

Partnership

Adelante seeks partnerships with organizations who offer eco-stove products so that the partner can benefit from the on the ground experience and knowledge® that the® Adelante staff has® to offer. Additionally, Adelante will serve as a local liason so that® the partner can benefit from the relationships® already established® within the communities® and the population® will feel secure with the entering partner organization. The partner providing the cookstoves would be expected to be able to offer® a® product quality guarantee and training/education to our clients prior to the purchase of the stove. This training/education could be incorporated within the education we offer to clients on a bi-weekly basis with the collaboration and participation of® the® given partner.
For those clients who require financing for® an® eco-stove, Adelante would be able to offer a low interest loan to secure the stove. However, to be able to implement this project on a large scale, Adelante is looking for external funding to expand the loan pool and promote clean cook stoves among our clients. It is crucial to build awareness of the benefits eco-stoves offer in terms of health, time savings and economic benefits.®
