Request for Proposals: Validation/Verification Body for Review of the Proposed New Methodology for Cookstoves and Other Thermal Applications

Verra invites proposals from validation/verification bodies (VVBs) to review the proposed new Methodology for Improved Thermal Energy Generation Units, which covers cookstoves and other thermal applications.

The proposed methodology applies to projects that involve the dissemination of improved thermal energy generation units, including cookstoves, dryers, ovens, and heaters. Through enhanced efficiency and/or fuel switching, which may involve the replacement of fossil fuels and non-renewable biomass, these units can reduce greenhouse gas emissions across households, communities, institutions, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

This methodology is based on the following existing methodologies currently approved for use within the Verified Carbon Standard Program:

  • VMR0006 Energy Efficiency and Fuel Switch Measures in Thermal Applications
  • AMS-II.G.: Energy efficiency measures in thermal applications of non-renewable biomass
  • AMS-I.E.: Switch from non-renewable biomass for thermal applications by the user

The proposed new methodology also incorporates current best practices and streamlined approaches in project implementation and monitoring. It was developed by Atmosphere Alternative, which will also lead the VVB assessment.

Interested VVBs must submit their proposals to methodologies@verra.org by Friday, September 22, 2023. Verra anticipates selecting a VVB by September 29, and the VVB assessment is expected to start in mid-October, with a duration of three to four months.
