Tech leaders, investors, chefs, and cookstoves converge in New York

When some of New York’s top tech entrepreneurs, culinary experts, visionaries, artists, and media gathered in New York this month at the inaugural FoodLovesTech event, most of them probably weren’t planning to engage in a discussion about clean cookstoves. But thanks to Alliance Ambassador Jose Andres, Chef Corps member Ron Duprat from Haiti, and multiple cookstove manufacturers, that’s exactly what happened.

Looking to strengthen its reach in New York’s tech and investment community, the Alliance teamed with digital giant VaynerLive and media outlet Edible New York to take the clean cooking message to the thousands of attendees of the FoodLovesTech event (FLT) in Manhattan. Chef Jose Andres kicked things off with a fireside chat with Vayner CEO Gary Vaynerchuk at a widely-attended opening reception, talking about the importance of innovation and investment in helping address the clean cooking issue around the world.

On the following day, featured as the keynote event for FLT, Andres joined Alliance CEO Radha Muthiah, Chef Ron Duprat, and Ethan Kay Brooklyn-based Biolite for a highlighted panel discussion targeted towards a very broad and unexperienced audience in the hopes of spreading the clean cooking message to the general public. The discussion was a huge success and Mr. Hailwel even declared that “he was inspired to do more for the clean cooking cause.”

Overall, The FLT event garnered diverse media, online, and social media attention, while reaching new and passionate audiences about the impacts of unsafe cooking and the solutions that clean cooking offers to address development challenges.
