Applications Open for Cookstoves Design Summit – IDDS

Applications are open for the International Development Design Summit (IDDS) in Kampala, Uganda in August 2016. The goal is to bring a diverse set of participants together to develop scalable technologies that are high performing, affordable, and designed to meet user needs.

The Alliance is partnering with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s D-Lab, the Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC), and the Centre for Integrated Research and Community Development Uganda (CIRCODU) to organize this intensive, hands-on design experience.

IDDS Cookstoves will bring together design and innovation expertise, the latest research and development, manufacturing know-how, and user-centered design. Participants will also have access to testing facilities and will be immersed with local communities. The design process will be informed by feedback on both performance and usability.

We are looking for both organizers and participants. The organizers can be from anywhere in the world who can support communications, aid the participants, and facilitate the design process.  Participants should be from East Africa, who enjoy problem solving, are team players, and have a mix of experiences, including:

  • using traditional stoves or alternative cookstoves and fuels
  • cookstoves manufacturing, design, testing, selling
  • design in other areas, or for other products
  • other relevant experience

After the summit, participants will become part of the International Development Innovation Network (IDIN), a network of more than 600 dynamic, diverse innovators around the world who design, develop, and disseminate technologies to improve the lives of people living in poverty. IDIN Network members are eligible for exclusive funding opportunities, technical support, mentorship, and more.
