Clean Cooking Activities

Action for Community Development (ADC) works in an ecologically sensitive area (the northern part of Cameroon) where 8 000 000 hectares of land are degraded and a huge part of the vegetation cover is lost. In a context where almost 90% of the population depend on the firewood for cooking ACD provides local community from the northern part of Cameroon support in building improved cooking stoves with local materials like cow or donkey dung, straw, termite mound or clay, water, etc. These stoves contributes to the reduction of the use of fire wood by 30%.
Apart from that, ACD pushes northern cameroon women (especially those selling firewood) to convert themselves in the green charcoal business. We therefore organize them in cooperative, train them on how to make ecological charcoal i.e. based on agricultural, livestock or jousehold waste.

Partnership

ACD's work matches with the Alliance objectives as:
1) Thanks to our cooking stoves, the effets of climate change can be mitigated. Indeed, every of our stoves helps store 3 tons of carbon per year as it reduces the need for wood by 30% and therefore helps protect forests.
2) Our cooking stoves and ecological charcoal lower air pollution and help to reduce smoke-related illnesses in our communities.
3) Our charcoal also contributes to a better waste management and therefore contributes to forest conservation.
In summary, we fully contribute to the Alliance mission and are open to provide further contribution if need be.
