Clean Cooking Activities
In Mozambique, CleanStar and a diverse group of partners have pioneered an innovative integrated food and energy business model that produces retail packaged food products and an affordable modern clean cooking alternative to charcoal that involves locally-produced ethanol-based fuel and a clean cookstove. CleanStar Mozambique Limitada's business model spans the entire value for food and energy products – from smallholder-based agroforestry cultivation, to agro-processing and value addition, through to marketing and direct retail sales – enabling improved access to modern energy services for urban households while driving environmental restoration and rural development.
CleanStar is currently exploring the technical feasibility and commercial viability of implementing similar business models in several East African countries and in Haiti.®
