Green Empowerment

Mission

Green Empowerment provides rural villages in the developing world access to clean water, electricity through renewable energy, and sustainable solutions. We work with local and regional governments, and rural communities to increase rural standards of living, restore forests and watersheds, and address climate change. Green Empowerment coordinates the provision of needed technical, organizational, and financial assistance to support local leaders and communities motivated to improve their lives.

Clean Cooking Activities

In partnership with local NGOs, Green Empowerment has installed biogas digester systems in Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru. The systems are located in both rural environments for domestic use and in urban environments for educational purposes.

Green Empowerment's Biogas Digester Innovations in Latin America project aims to increase the number of successful and innovative biogas digester projects Latin America by improving the quality of design, social integration, methods and materials used. In 2009, Green Empowerment hosted the first annual Workshop to Exchange Biogas Digester Experiences in Latin America in Peru at the CEDECAP center. In 2010, the Network of Biodigesters for Latin America and the Caribbean (RedBioLac) met again in Costa Rica at the Earth University campus. In 2011, the RedBioLAC meets in Puebla, Mexico. Through local partners, Green Empowerment has installed biogas digesters in five countries in Latin America.

Partnership

As part of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, Green Empowerment will continue to implement projects, initiate and facilitate the transfer of knowledge between partners in the South, as well as, North to South and participant is events.
