Haines Solar Cookers LLC

Mission

We design and produce durable, safe, easy-to-use "open source" Haines Solar Cookers to enable families to cook with free sunlight and keep the evening meal hot until after dark. Our cookers attract carbon credits sufficient to permit self-sustaining distribution to refugees and other income-challenged populations.

Clean Cooking Activities

Over 4,000 Haines Solar Cookers have been sold in the United States on Amazon and our own website, www.HainesSolarCookers.com. The Haines 2.0 solar cooker has been rated "best solar cooker" by EcoWatch, https://www.ecowatch.com/solar-oven-guide-2655204322.html, and TreeHugger, https://www.treehugger.com/best-solar-ovens-5120148. The Haines 2.0 cooker has been tested and evaluated in a peer-reviewed journal: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0360544222016334. Successful projects using Haines Solar Cookers are described in this article: Carbon-Free Cooking. A You-tube video shows a recent successful project in Kenya. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMpTPJOwE7A. We have distributed over 1500 Haines solar cookers in Kenya, Uganda, Mexico and Haiti. The Haines 2.0 weighs 1.3 pounds, stores flat, and can be set up in minutes for cooking. It can cook two meals a day, because it doubles as a "heat-retention basket" that keeps the evening meal hot after sundown.

Partnership

We are open to partnerships with other stove manufacturers or distributors, and indeed most of our projects have multiple partners. The Haines can be used with any standard cooking pot (with NO plastic cooking bag). The Haines Solar Cooker is safer and easier to use than a fuel-efficient stove. There is no dangerous fire, no unhealthy smoke, and zero carbon emissions. On overcast days, the Haines 2.0 solar cooker can be used as a heat-retaining basket, to allow food cooked over a fire to continue cooking in the basket without additional carbon fuel use. Food never burns, so no stirring is required. So it is the perfect companion to a fuel-efficient stove. The Mylar reflector does not oxidize and is not damaged by boiling water or rain.
