Mission

The International Cryosphere Climate Initiative (ICCI) works to highlight the urgent climate needs of regions of the world covered by ice and snow – the cryosphere --including the Arctic, Antarctica, Himalayas, Andes and other mountain regions. In connection with the Alliance, ICCI is working to support clean cookstoves and heating stove designs that minimize impacts on snow- and ice-covered regions, including financing mechanisms and by shaping new networks between cryosphere regions.

Clean Cooking Activities

ICCI is currently working on financing mechanism design, supporting development of testing protocols and standards that would include black carbon emissions, and on shaping contacts between Nordic woodstove efforts and cookstove efforts.

In Nordic countries, with the support of the Nordic Council ICCI is beginning to develop programs that would lead to lower particle as well as black carbon emissions in these countries near the Arctic, including consumer campaigns, testing protocols and standards, and new stove designs. The aim is stoves that decrease both particle emissions for health benefits, and black carbon for regional climate benefits in the Arctic.

Partnership

ICCI brings policy expertise, including on carbon markets and financial mechanisms that could further support cookstoves development.
