Mission

NCDC is a Non-Governmental Organization working since 1985. With its immortal vision 'Creation of self-reliant, equitable and inclusive society', it works in rural areas with approach directing community initiatives to improve the quality of life through equitable and sustainable development practices. It has been working in different sectors viz. Renewable energy, Gender, environment, Good governance according to need of the communities. It has been playing the role of facilitator for attaining the common goal of sustainable development.

Clean Cooking Activities

NCDC has worked as regional service center in Eastern Nepal for developing and promoting renewable energy technologies under the Ministry of Population & Environment in Nepal. As a service center, NCDC has promoted and facilitated to install different types of improved cook stoves at household and institutional level from 2003. NCDC conduct efficiency test of those installed stoves randomly to maintain the quality control of improved cooking stove during monitoring. Till date, NCDC has facilitated to install more than 220 thousand improved cooking stoves (both mud and metallic made) in 10 districts of Nepal. 70 Indoor Pollution Free (IAP-Free) Village Development Committee (VDCs) has declared by installing improved Cooking Stove in each household of those VDCs through NCDC. No any households of those VDCs have traditional stoves at this stage. NCDC has innovated/demonstrated different types of HH level and institutional cooking stoves through its resource center. NCDC has trained more than 1500 stove promoters at community level in Eastern Development Region of Nepal. Nepal government targets to get all Rural Municipalities get IAP declared by 2022. NCDC at international scale has replicated its expertise on clean cooking stove technologies in more than 10 countries of Africa and South Asia through FK exchange program.

Partnership

Working as partner with the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, NCDC feels proud to be a part of the humanitarian response work. NCDC would like to stand as the implementation partner in collaboration with the Development Fund, which has been a long term partner implementing similar projects in the past as well.
NCDC through this new partnership would like to learn and share its experience in wider frame. Implementation of the project from this partnership is expected to add value to replicate and upscale the previously implemented project based on the results and lesson learnt in the past. This would on one hand will expand the best practices in the other hand will also develop the new forum to learn new approach to become more specific in future.
As an implementation partner NCDC will work directly with the community. NCDC will plan and make local level baseline to design the project, coordinate with the stakeholders under its institutional framework. NCDC will be utilizing the funds for project implementation and report accordingly. During implementation of the project NCDC will highly prioritize working with the software activities to institutionalize the support provided. Working with community for adoption of new technology and behavior change, organizing and capacitating the target groups, sensitizing on environment and climate change, empowering women, health sensitization will be the primary area of focus. Partnership with local government, private sectors and entrepreneurs will be made to enhance the cook stoves in institutional level.
