Clean Cooking Activities

Since 1995 we have been designing and trying to disseminate improved wood and charcoal stoves, as well as chicken smokers using wood industry byproducts. We have produced a guide for women's groups on smoking chickens and creating a micro-enterprise based PROTEGE QV possesses a lot of expertise in the sector. Partnering with the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves will permit us to share best practices with other partners, and build our dissemination and advocacy capacity in the market.

Partnership

PROTEGE QV was founded in 1995 to disseminate improved cookstoves with the goal of contributing to the reduction of deforestation, due to woodfuel harvesting, and to improve the cooking conditions in households. We have been designing and disseminating improved cookstoves and smokers in Cameroon since 1995. In 1996, we organized a national workshop and exhibition at Yaounde to inform people on the benefits of improved cookstoves. With the support of World Bank office in Cameroon, we organized cooking workshops in two villages in West Cameroon (Batoufam, Bangoua) using our products to train local craftsmen to build and repair cookstoves. We have also received support from the European Union (FOURMI program) to train women creating a chick smoking micro-enterprise. We have tried to sustain this activity and we regularly train women to acquire skills. We would like to create a social enterprise to produce improved cookstoves and to work with retailers.
