Clean Cooking Activities

For the past 20 years since 1994 SMECAO has pioneered for community and institutions awareness and promotion of the use of Improved Cook stove on both charcoal and fuel wood/Biomass (Mkombozi and Umeme Stove type). This has been implemented through training of Local Artisans as TOT’s on construction/Manufacture, marketing and promotion of Mkombozi and Umeme Stove driven with the notion of commercializing of Mkombozi Fuel Efficient Stove as means of income earning for rural women.

Also we have been promoting the use of renewable energy i.e. Solax II, in promoting the use of solar SMECAO is linking sellers with buyers from the village. In saving energy SMECAO also previously and currently promotes and train local artisans on the use of risk husks in brick burning and promotion and training on development of Cinvar bricks i.e. Cement Soil bricks for construction.

Partnership

SMECAO would like to participate in this alliance as implementer. As local NGO working in Same and Mwanga District Kilimanjaro Region in Tanzania, we have limited fund in reaching our strategic plan which is to redesign Mkombozi Stove and make it more potable ceramic of the shelf, easy to use after purchase to suit market demand of the Peri and urban areas of Same and Mwanga community. Thus this will create a paradigm shift from three figure stove to Mkombozi Fixed Stove to potable and ceramic off the shelf Mkombozi stove.
Furthermore we target reaching other district within Kilimanjaro region but with limited funds challenge that will be impossible. Thus through this alliance it will help spread our intervention further.

Our contribution as SMECAO will be at contributing at reaching the alliance goal to foster the adoption of clean cookstoves and fuels in 100 million households by 2020. Also, sharing best practices, challenges and relevant information on projects implemented by SMECAO Fund.
