As a third-party verifier, we conduct evaluations of a broad range of fuel-types, technologies, and other sources of greenhouse gases and short-lived climate pollutants.

Clean Cooking Activities

Recognized as an expert in environmental certification for nearly 30 years, SCS Global Services has become a world leader in the verification of carbon offset projects. We independently verify carbon offsets associated with the following categories: forests, land use, landfills, livestock, and elimination of ozone depleting substances.
®
Our carbon offset verification team brings its expertise in field forestry, biometrics, and verification to the global carbon market, with a commitment to scientific excellence, high quality standards, outstanding client service, and fast turnaround. We will work with you to find the most cost effective and comprehensive solutions to meet your project validation and verification needs.

Forest & Land Use Carbon Offset Verification
Forestry, Agriculture & Other Land-Use Projects
Generate carbon credits for your forest carbon and land-use carbon offset projects that are credible, transparent, and tradable in global carbon markets. SCS Global Services is a globally recognized verifier of forest and land-use carbon offset projects, with notable expertise in REDD and Improved Forest Management projects.
We are accredited to verify and validate under:

VCS (Verified Carbon Standard)

CAR (Climate Action Reserve)

ARB (California Air Resources Board program for compliance offsets)

ACR (American Carbon Registry)

CCB (Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Project Design Standards)

FCOP (British Columbia Forest Carbon Offset Protocol)

Gold Standard

Landfill, Livestock, and ODS
Carbon Offset Verification
Develop carbon credits through your landfill gas, ozone depleting substances (ODS), and livestock offset projects that are credible, transparent, and tradable in global carbon markets. SCS Global Services is globally recognized as a verifier of carbon offset projects.
SCS is ISO 14065 accredited to offer landfill carbon offset project verification under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate Action Reserve (CAR). SCS is accredited under the California Air Resources Board (ARB) for ODS and livestock projects.

Corporate Carbon Footprint
Carbon Footprint Assessment and Verification for Organizations
An accurate carbon footprint is an important step toward managing and reducing your impact on climate change. Corporate Carbon Footprint Verification reassures customers, investors, and regulators that the carbon footprint of your organization is complete, accurate, and compliant with all the major GHG reporting standards.
®
SCS Global Services is an accredited verifier offering measurement and verification of GHG inventories for the following major climate registries and programs:

The Climate Registry (TCR)® (ANSI ISO 14065 accredited)

Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)

World Resources Institute (WRI)® Greenhouse Gas Protocol

Our professional audit team is recognized for the thoroughness and quality of our work, rapid turn-around, and customer service.

Product Carbon Footprint Certification
Measuring GHG Impacts Across the Life Cycle
Establish your carbon footprint for products or services professionally and cost-effectively with SCS Global Services. We specialize in helping you understand your life cycle GHG impacts, identify hot spots in your supply chain, determine continuous improvement strategies, and satisfy customer and stakeholder expectations. Your product carbon footprint can be generated in conformance to the World Resource Institute (WRI) GHG Protocol, PAS 2050, or ISO 14067.
®
Our expert team is ISO 14065 accredited to provide thorough greenhouse gas (GHG) product analyses. We can help you better understand, model, and calculate Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions for your products and services. We can also provide third-party validation of products that have already been footprinted and require carbon labeling.

Partnership

Carbon financing through carbon markets currently revolve around reductions in six classes of long-lived greenhouse gases (GHGs) identified under the Kyoto Protocol, with the lion's share of credits issued for projects sequestering or reducing emissions of the most common of these gases, carbon dioxide (CO2).®  Completely untapped in this market is the value of reducing emissions of black carbon and other short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs).®  Yet recent discoveries in the field of climate science have uncovered the fact that black carbon (BC), methane, and ozone are responsible for 30% to 50% of the human effects on global warming.® ®

In February 2013, black carbon was recognized as second only to carbon dioxide as a leading cause of human-caused climate change (e.g., see® https://www.climatecentral.org/news/black-carbon-second-only-to-co2-in-heating-the-planet-new-study-15465).®  Yet because black carbon is short-lived in the atmosphere, efforts to replace cookstoves that are an ongoing source of emissions will have immediate and positive effects for the climate, as well as for the health and welfare of local residents who suffer from the diminished air quality that black carbon emissions cause.

Now, updates in climate accounting metrics, captured in the new LEO-SCS-002 LCA standard being finalized under the ANSI process, can be integrated into carbon registries to monetize the value of reducing these SLCPs. SCS Global Services has been one of the drivers of the technical aspects of this standard, based on two decades of work in the field of life cycle assessment. This monetization and verification of tradable offset credits will incentivize projects directly with funds for community economic development, and through broader societal savings in public health costs associated with reduced health impacts from regional emission loads.

Operating as a third-party validator and verifier, SCS Global Services is committed to working with carbon registries and projects interested in recognizing the value of black carbon emission reductions as well as emissions of other GHGs and SCLPs

directly benefit the households participating in Project Surya;

incentivize additional distribution of alternative cookstoves for expanded environmental and health benefits; and

be scaled up to support other alternative cookstove projects as well as black carbon reduction projects in other sectors around the world.

To truly understand the magnitude of the opportunity represented by including black carbon in the carbon markets, note that every ton of black carbon sequestered is equivalent to more than 700 tons of carbon dioxide sequestered over 100 years.®  This equivalency ratio is even greater when considering the timeframe from now until the earth is expected to reach the 2®°C warming threshold (in approximately 2050), beyond which “dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system†will occur, according to the Copenhagen Climate Accord of 2009.®  From a monetary standpoint, this means that unparalleled funding could be released through carbon market support of such initiatives.

SCS is currently partnered with Project Surya to provide third party validation and verification services to serve as the basis for black carbon offset credits for cookstoves in India.
