Mission

The mission of The Charcoal Project is to promote, facilitate, and advocate for the widespread adoption of clean burning technologies, sustainable fuel alternatives, and policies that support energy-poverty alleviation for those who depend on biomass as their primary fuel around the world.

Clean Cooking Activities

1. The Harvest Fuel Initiative is a partnership between The Charcoal Project and MIT's D-Lab to invest in early-stage startup entrepreneurs producing briquettes, promoting the adoption of clean cookstoves, and sustainably sourcing feedstocks for fuels. HFI is presently focused on investing in sub-Saharan African countries of Tanzania and Uganda.

2. The Charcoal Project is focused on advancing the conversation and policy changes surrounding wood energy in sub-Saharan Africa. An international conference on Charcoal and wood energy is scheduled for 2014.

3. Engage other GACC partners and GACC to focus on energy efficiency and clean tech across the entire solid biomass energy supply chain.
4. Report on developments in the clean cookstove community to our own audience.
