The Solar Village Project

Mission

Our mission is to bring solar power solutions to entire villages without access to the central grid. In today’s world, we believe electricity to be an essential resource, similar in importance to water, food, and shelter. Without it, people are marginalized. With it, people are empowered.

Organizational Expertise

Capacity Building, Monitoring and Evaluation, Research, Lab or Field Testing

Other Organizational Expertise

My primary employment is at the University of Maryland in the Electrical Engineering Department as a Project Coordinator.

Technologies & Fuels

Solar

Other Technologies Fuels

We distribute Solar Home Lighting Systems to all the homes in specific villages one village at time. All the villages we work with are off the grid and have no access to electricity and rely on kerosene for lighting and sometimes cooking. In parallel we also electrify the village schools.

Clean Cooking Activities

The people of the villages we work with cook on the traditional mud stoves using dung, kerosene or brush. The air in their homes is very unclean they could truly benefit from these stoves.

Partnership

We have all the logistical and community contacts necessary to implement a stove distribution and training demonstration to the people of Gauterine Village in Bihar India. We've been working closely with the people of Gauterine for 3 years and they are very comfortable with us.
