Clean Cooking Activities
Since 1995, YARD has been working with rural smallholder farmers in Uganda to train them on the usage, maintenance, and manufacture of improved mud stoves both at household and institutional levels. This is because the materials for making such stoves are locally available to farmers and they can easily access them without spending more money. Therefore this helps to minimize household expenditure, while improving the health of people and controlling accidents within homes especially among young children. YARD has also worked in partnership with other organizations to increase access to clean energy among the rural communities such as charcoal cookstoves and small solar lamps. This has built our capacity in promoting clean energy products and also building the capacity of rural people to maintain and use such clean products.
Partnership
YARD has trained artisans that can easily train beneficiaries to construct clean cookstoves for farmers. In addition, we have the capacity to market clean energy products due to the fact that we work in large rural areas. With such experience, we can also share experiences through exchange visits and documentation of case stories that have benefited from the clean energy movement. Distribution of clean energy products can also be done by YARD as one of our activities within this partnership.
