Position Summary
Project Drawdown is hiring a part-time Digital Communications Strategist who will join the organization’s marketing and communications team. We are looking for a creative individual who can work as part of a team to plan, manage, execute, and evaluate a wide array of digital communications activities aimed at enhancing awareness of and engagement with Project Drawdown, our products, and the climate solutions we’re working to advance.
The Digital Communications Strategist will develop online communication strategies, manage social media, contribute to digital marketing efforts, and assist with graphic design and multimedia production—all aimed at reaching and engaging a diverse domestic and international audience.
As a small organization with a big mission, we are seeking someone who can manage simultaneous projects and meet multiple deadlines while maintaining a high level of initiative, creativity, collaboration, and excellence. The Digital Communications Strategist will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications at Project Drawdown and collaborate closely with other members of the organization. This position will also work with freelancers and consultants as needed and with other organizations and content experts on a project-by-project basis. The position is salaried with an expectation of ~20 hours/week. As with all positions at Project Drawdown, this one will be 100% remote. Employees can work anywhere in the United States.
Essential Responsibilities
As an integral part of the Project Drawdown marketing and communications team, the Digital Communications Strategist will focus on the following responsibilities:
Digital Strategy
- Help develop and implement Project Drawdown’s digital strategy as an integral component of our broader marketing and communications plan aimed at increasing the visibility of Project Drawdown’s people, programs, publications, multimedia, and events for new, diverse audiences from a variety of backgrounds and identities
- Refine and implement Project Drawdown’s social media strategy in line with overall marketing and communications efforts
Social Media
- Bring creativity, passion, and enthusiasm for social media and online engagement to bear on Project Drawdown’s social engagement within the context of our brand identity
- Manage day-to-day operations of Project Drawdown social media accounts, including regular posting of content, implementing paid social ads, monitoring for and responding to questions/comments, social listening, and reporting
- Monitor social media trends and emerging tools and recommend new ways to engage
- Leverage data and analytics to provide insights and make recommendations to improve engagement and visibility of accounts and content
- Provide support for fundraising efforts across Project Drawdown’s social media channels
- Identify and capitalize on innovative opportunities for enhancing visibility for, appreciation of, and engagement with Project Drawdown on a global scale
Online Marketing
- Help develop and implement online marketing and advertising campaigns for new reports, publications, events, announcements, etc.
- Work with the marketing and communications team to develop messaging and multimedia (photos, graphics, video, etc.) for online marketing campaigns
- Manage placement, messaging, assets, and audience targeting for social media ads
Design and Multimedia
- Design compelling digital assets for marketing and social media
- Design and edit illustrations, graphics, social media cards, and more
- Provide basic video production and editing support for social media
- Assist with other graphic design and multimedia projects as needed
- Provide graphic design support for programs

- Basic knowledge of, or demonstrated interest in, climate change
- Excellent written, speaking / presentation, and interpersonal communication skills to engage effectively within the organization and with external collaborators
- Ability to think creatively and pitch, identify, and source compelling and relevant content for diverse audiences
- Skill with Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator and more), video editing tools, and/or other related media production tools
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Ability to generate innovative ideas
- Ability to clearly and accurately conveying complex, often science-based, information
- Proficiency in managing social media platforms with a solid understanding of current best practices and industry trends
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, design, communications, or other areas OR equivalent work experience
- 4+ years of experience in marketing, design, content production, social media engagement, audience analysis, and/or data analytics
- Proven record of success developing high-impact, creative marketing campaigns
- Strong writing and editing skills—especially as they relate to digital content
- Experience producing and curating digital content for, and effectively engaging with, diverse audiences across different backgrounds and identities
- Experience producing creative social media content that sparks high levels of engagement and/or experience using surveys or related tools to engage audiences in interactive conversations
- Experience using social media management, listening, and analytics tools and the ability to use metrics to inform and evolve content and engagement strategy
- Experience working with a broad range of external partners and/or collaborating with outside consultants and freelancers
- Impeccable organizational skills, thoroughness, and ability to multitask in a fluid environment and respond quickly to emerging needs
- Experience helping to develop, implement, and execute a digital marketing and communications plan
- Experience working effectively with a team of communications professionals
- Fluency in English with other languages being a bonus

Compensation
This is a part-time (50%) position with benefits. Compensation will be in the range of $35,000–50,000.
