The Magic Mitad, an alternative baking plate designed for the Ethiopian staple food injera, which creates the possibility of using cleaner fuels for baking (charcoal, briquettes, biogas & solar) and significantly reduces fuel use for existing stoves.®

Clean Cooking Activities

One of the stove moulds produced by Et-Solar Tech PLC (over 3500 produced to date) is used for production of the Mirt stove, used for baking injera (Ethiopia's staple food), through which over 1,7 million stoves (2010 data) have been disseminated. We also produce (institutional) fuel saving stoves and solar cookers.®

Partnership

With the® Magic Mitad we aim to contribute to the goal of reaching 100 million households by 2020 and empower women across the value chain.
With the Magic Mitad we will initially focus on bakeries which will be able to rapidly cover the costs of the product through fuel and baking time savings. Additionally the outreach for each Magic Mitad is multiplied through the extensive use of the product compared to cookstoves and baking plates used only by individual households.®  Because affordable, large scale, centralized production of the high quality ceramic glass used for the Magic Mitad is possible, we estimate that our product and approach can have a significant contribution to reaching the 2020 goal of the Alliance. ®
