Clean Cooking Activities
Since the begining of 2,000, 15, 000 solar cookers and 3,000 improved stoves and thermal cases have been implemented in Andean Region. Disadvataged families in rural areas, suburbs, children eating at school (Cafeteria) are targetted.
In 2012, in Bolivia, 35 workshops were carried out and 710 families were benefited with Solar cookers. In addition in Peru, 39 workshops were carried out , and 795 Solar cookers were distributed. In Chile, 68 Solar cookers, 63 thermal cases and 8 improved stoves were distributed. In Argentina 453 improved stoves were distributed.
Partnership
BISS-Andes has distributed over 18000 solar and improved cookers in 4 countries, through its local partners. The key to this success lies in the core philosophy: community empowerment through proven workshops on how to construct, maintain and continued usage of the distributed cookers. Ours projects in Bolivia and in Peru have been recognized by Gold Standard Foundation in 2010 and 2011 respectively, so besides our experience with promotion of solar energy, we got this new knowledge and experience for getting carbon finance.
Besides our work with communities, we have worked with Bolivian and Peruvian Universities on technical tests, standards, measures and monitoring methodologies. Currently, we are working with Bolivian Catholic University of La Paz supporting a graduate program in renewable energy, National University of La Paz (UMSA) on development of protocols for evaluating efficiency of a solar cooker, and National University of Arequipa (Peru) on developing simple devices to improve usage of solar energy.
