Mission

The Maria Jose Crusellas Foundation is a non profit organization that is dedicated to spreading awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning both domestically and abroad as well as installing CO detectors to the less fortunate around the world. Carbon monoxide can come from coal, wood, or gas stoves, heaters, cars and many other appliances and kills thousands of people worldwide. The mission of the MJC Foundation is to stop this silent killer from destroying thousands of lives both domestically and abroad.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Clean Cooking Activities

The first week of April 2011 the MJC Foundation took its first trip to Ecuador. While we were there we installed over 150 detectors throughout Cuenca Ecuador targeting the less fortunate areas. We teamed up with the Fire Departments in the three largest cities in Ecuador as well as met with high-ranking government officials to implement a three-step plan to stop such a preventable death. The first step is have the MJC Foundation start a carbon monoxide awareness campaign to educate the Ecuadorian people, the second step to have our foundation team up with these fire departments and give/install detectors to the less fortunate throughout Ecuador and finally the Ecuadorian government is going to try to implement a law that states if you are a building owner building a new complex, house etc. You must put a CO detector in the house when you install your indoor appliances.

Partnership

The Maria Jose Crusellas Foundation believes we have the skills necessary to benefit both of our organizations. As you already know stoves give off carbon monoxide poisoning. If a stove is old and dirty, CO can easily spread throughout a home. Carbon monoxide is odorless and tasteless and impossible to detect without a CO detector. There is no awareness of the problem aboard and that needs to change. A partnership would be extremely beneficial to both organizations because we have the same goal, to save lives.
