Job description:
ARE is recruiting a Policy & Advocacy Officer, reporting to the Director of Policy & Business Development.
About the role:
1. Policy formulation & campaign management
- Conceptualise and drive policy and advocacy campaigns on topics related to renewable energy, energy access, green jobs, climate change
- Draft advocacy materials, such as policy and technical publications, articles, speeches
- Develop consistent messaging and formulate ARE positions
- Represent ARE in high-level policy fora
- Increase ARE’s visibility in and relations with relevant media and communication outlets
- Monitor and influence policy developments in target markets and with key partners
2. Stakeholder management
- Manage working groups of key stakeholders
- Enhance relations with key public sector bodies, governments and foundations, and develop new ones
- Liaise with ARE partners on international and national policy topics, develop partnership agreements/MoU’s
- Work with communication colleagues to design impactful campaigns
- Manage one or several Policy & Advocacy Intern(s) and/or Assistant(s)
3. Fundraising & member development
- Help raise funds for new policy & advocacy activities
- Support the drafting of concept notes, project proposals and tender applications
- Acquisition and retention of ARE Members (particularly non-profits, NGO, government entities and research institutions)
About you:
- Fluent in written and spoken French and English (native speaker or equivalent)
- Excellent writing, editing and reviewing skills
- Ability to provide clear and concise deliverables under time pressure
- Rigorous attention to detail and ability to take ownership of activities and projects
- Proactive mindset and can-do attitude
- ≥ 3 years of experience in similar role(s)
- University degree in public affairs, journalism, political science, law, economics or other relevant studies
- Right to live and work in Belgium
- Knowledge of other languages (for example Spanish, Portuguese or Swahili) is an asset
- IT literate (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Experience working for a business association or other non-profit organisation desirable
