Household Energy, Biomass Sustainability, and Land Coverage (ASHES)
Reason for concern: Over half of all wood harvested worldwide is used as fuel. By depleting stocks of woody biomass, unsustainable harvesting can contribute to forest degradation, deforestation, and climate change. However, past efforts to quantify woodfuel sustainability failed to provide credible results.
The study presented: This webinar will explore the social and political theories that have historically linked woodfuel consumption to deforestation and forest degradation and how those assumptions have been used in developing methodologies for clean cooking interventions. Also presented will be a look at how models have evolved to improve the accuracy of woody biomass extraction and deforestation estimations.
Webinar participation is free. For the webinar, a high-speed internet connection is required. Please note that the webinar technology allows attendees to listen to audio through their computer or by phone. Additional log-in information will be provided upon registration.
