Partner Webinar: Cooking Solutions for Refugees – Rwanda Assessment
The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves invites you to participate in a joint, live webinar with Alliance partners Inyenyeri and the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) on Wednesday, July 25th, at 08:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) to discuss the results and outcomes of ICRW's recent assessment of an Inyenyeri project to introduce biomass fuel pellets and Mimi Moto stoves into Kigeme refugee camp, Rwanda.
About the Project and Assessment
Kigeme camp is home to some 18,000 Congolese refugees, most of whom rely on traditional stoves and firewood, charcoal, and agricultural waste for cooking. Inyenyeri launched a project in 2016 in which an initial group of refugee customers used cash-based transfers to lease Mimi Moto stoves and purchase biomass fuel pellets from Inyenyeri. ICRW and the Alliance assessed impact of this project on the refugees' lives and livelihoods, examining factors such as time use, fuel procurement, fuel expenditure, safety, and quality of life. Ultimately, ICRW found that the project had numerous social benefits for Inyenyeri's refugee customers; however, the majority of households could not afford to purchase enough fuel pellets for all of their cooking needs and had to supplement with other stoves and fuel types.
About the Webinar Series
This webinar, designed for new and existing partners, will examine the results of ICRW's assessment and discuss how they have impacted Inyenyeri's current efforts to scale up their operations in Kigeme. It is especially designed for partners who are interested in learning more about cooking in humanitarian settings and how cash programming may be used to support market-based interventions. The event part of a series that provides an overview of highlights, sector trends, upcoming opportunities for partners, and features on specific tools, resources, and engagement activities in the cookstoves sector.
