Various approaches exist to assess consumers’ willingness to pay for clean, efficient cookstoves and fuels, the understanding of which can help organizations offer accessible pricing and financing, in addition to meeting consumer needs and preferences through appropriate product design.

About the speakers:
Dr. Theresa Beltramo
Theresa Beltramo is an experienced Energy and Development Economist with expertise in macroeconomic and energy forecasting as well as microeconomic applied research in the field of household renewable energy. Dr. Beltramo brings relevant experience from the private sector, multilateral development agencies, and applied field research from several research projects including the roles as Principal Investigator. She currently is the Senior Economist for UNHCR's Operational Solutions and Transitions Section which covers Energy and the Environment, Livelihoods, and Solutions. She holds a Ph.D. and Masters degree in Economics.
Ms. Elisa Derby
Elisa Derby is a household energy expert with more than 12 years of experience in the clean cooking sector. She manages Winrock’s clean cooking programs, with projects and partnerships that reduce fuel use and exposure to household air pollution. Her work incorporates field-based capacity building, formative research, network building, knowledge dissemination, grants management and direct-implementation activities. She is a Co-Principal Investigator on WASHplus consumer preferences, needs and willingness to pay research in Bangladesh and Nepal. She holds a Masters degree in Energy and Resources from the University of California-Berkeley.
Dr. Pam Jagger
Pam Jagger is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at the University of North Carolina. She runs the Forest Use, Energy and Livelihoods (FUEL) Lab at the Carolina Population Center which focuses on biomass reliance and human welfare, natural resource governance, and environment and poverty linkages. She has undertaken large-scale field projects in several countries in sub-Saharan Africa and is currently undertaking an evaluation of a private sector cookstove initiative in Rwanda. She has a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Indiana University and a Masters Degree in Forest Economics from the University of Alberta.
Ms. Julia Rosenbaum
Julia Rosenbaum is a health behavior change specialist, contributing to bringing the health behavior change practice beyond communications to incorporate the role of consumer-focused products, services, and systems in catalyzing and sustaining health-related behavior change. Currently Rosenbaum serves as Deputy Director and Senior Behavior Change Specialist for the USAID-funded WASHplus Project managed by FHI360. Rosenbaum recently served as editor as well as author of the Journal of Health Communications Special Issue: Advancing Communication and Behavior Change Strategies for Cleaner Cooking and is Co-Principal Investigator on two consumer preference and WTP studies in Nepal and Bangladesh.
