Annual ETHOS conference wraps up
The 17th annual meeting of Engineers in Technical and Humanitarian Opportunities of Service (ETHOS) was held in Kirkland, Washington from January 27-29. More than 120 participants from universities, laboratories, NGOs, and other organizations from 13 countries shared their progress and challenges, while discussing how to more effectively collaborate to strengthen the cookstove and fuel sector.
Radha Muthiah, CEO of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, helped open the second day of the event during a Q&A session with ETHOS participants. Attendees shared feedback and ideas on how the Alliance can collaborate with partners to improve technologies and fuels, boost adoption, and help build a mature and sustainable sector. Radha also discussed the Alliance’s work to support partners through awareness raising, relationship building with new partners, and coordinating the sector.
The ETHOS agenda included panel discussions on recent progress in health research, usage monitoring, and international standards. Panelists discussed how ongoing efforts focused on multiple stove and fuel types are continuing to shine more light on the relationship between stoves, usage, and health impacts; improve adoption; and develop standards that support the sector to improve. Breakout sessions included presentations on health impacts, lab and field testing, user adoption, standards, monitoring and evaluation, and new stove designs and technologies.
Additional details from the conference are expected to be published on the ETHOS website.
