New Report Tracks Household Energy Emissions for 640 Districts in India
Household energy consumption (HEC) and its contribution to both indoor and outdoor air pollution is a critical issue. It’s particularly important in India, due to the sheer number of people exposed to pollution on a daily basis.
The global burden of disease estimates list total air pollution as the second biggest health risk in India, with household air pollution ranking third and ambient (outdoor) air pollution ranking ninth, respectively. Together, household and ambient air pollution account for over 1.4 million premature deaths each year. With that in mind, the Alliance supported a study conducted by Urban Emissions.Info to estimate the contribution of household air pollution from HEC to ambient air pollution in India at a district level using source modeling approach.
