Chef Pati Jinich Joins Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves Chef Corps
March 17, 2015–Washington, DC The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves announced today that Chef Pati Jinich will join the Alliance as a member of the Chef Corps. Together with other Alliance Chef Corps members Jose Andres, Susan Kamau, Sanjeev Kapoor, and Luu Meng, Jinich will help raise awareness of the dangers of cooking on open fires and traditional cookstoves, which is one of the world's most pressing health and environmental problems.
Alliance Chef Corps members include renowned chefs from the US, Mexico, India, Cambodia, and Kenya, who use their culinary expertise and professional background to raise awareness about the harmful environmental and health impacts of traditional cooking techniques in their native countries
“I was shocked and beyond saddened when I found out that cooking, which should be a basic nurturing experience for everyone, is killing so many people in their attempt to feed their families,” said Jinich. “As a mother and a chef, this issue deeply resonates with me, especially since children and women are most often victims of disease and injury due to unsafe cooking conditions in the home.”
Pati Jinich is host of the hit PBS-series “Pati’s Mexican Table” and an internationally-known cookbook author, cooking teacher and chef of the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, DC. She will lend her considerable talents to the Alliance’s efforts to raise awareness of the dangers of exposure to household air pollution and to spread the word about clean cooking solutions to improve access to clean energy.
“I am delighted to announce Pati’s role as the newest member of the Alliance Chef Corps,” said Radha Muthiah, CEO of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. “We look forward to working closely with Pati to reach new audiences with our important clean cooking message. Her commitment to improving the lives of girls and women and her role as a culinary ambassador, make her an ideal partner for the Alliance and our work.”

Pati is a regular guest on many television programs, and has been featured in The Washington Post, The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and other U.S. national and regional press.
“I’m honored to serve as a member of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves’s Chef Corps to raise awareness about their critical work, which will save lives in the developing world and address an environmental problem that will ultimately improve the livelihood of everyone,” said Jinich.
