BURN Announces Opening of New Factory in Kenya

BURN Manufacturing Co. opened a US $5.9 million facility in Kenya this month with support from General Electric, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), and the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves.  The new factory is expected to produce over 3.7 million stoves and provide 300 sustainable jobs for Kenyans over the next 10 years. BURN is marketing and distributing the JikoKoaTM cookstove in Nairobi and surrounding areas of Kenya with plans to expand their product line to include multiple fuel saving biomass stoves.

The Alliance supported BURN in 2013 through the first round of the Spark Fund, providing financing for the company to transition nearly all of its cookstove manufacturing processes to Kenya from China.
