Radha’s Message for April 2017
Dear friends,
It was great to connect with so many partners and practitioners at the Sustainable Energy for All Forum earlier this month. This year’s Forum focused more than ever on cooking and energy access, including plenary discussions and panels on a wide range of issues that impact our work. The release of the Global Tracking Framework at the Forum made clear the challenge of propelling clean cooking to the prominence of similar development issues that often receive far more funding. But this year’s Forum certainly helped move things in the right direction.
I am encouraged by the prioritization of clean cooking in Nepal, where a new program supported by the Government of Norway and led by ICIMOD, WHO, and the Alliance, is promoting smoke-free communities in efforts to improve health while reducing air pollution, including short lived climate pollutants like black carbon. It’s exciting to see this project moving forward with such broad support.
I’m also honored to welcome a global leader on mitigating climate change Christiana Figueres to the Alliance’s Leadership Council. There’s no better champion when it comes to protecting the climate, and I’m glad she’ll be joining us.
I invite you to join me, Ms. Figueres, and hundreds of others working on this issue at the Clean Cooking Forum 2017 in New Delhi. Less than six months until the kickoff on October 24!
Our work continues,
Radha
