Julia Roberts and Amy Smart Honored for Environmentalism
Julia Roberts and Amy Smart are more than actresses and pretty women. They are eco-enthusiasts dedicated to protecting the planet. Last week, the two ladies were honored for their environmental activism in Santa Monica, Calif.
While in attendance at Heal the Bay’s annual Bring Back the Beach gala, the two women, along with Roberts’ husband Danny Moder, were recognized for their eco-work.
Roberts and Moder have long been supporters of the planet; they even took her Oscar-winning role as Erin Brockovich literally by fighting for local waters and joining forces with Heal the Bay. For those who don’t know, Brockovich fought for drinking water to be free of chromium.
The married duo also fight for a clean environment for their children. In 2010, Roberts spoke out on World Pneumonia Day and said, “Pneumonia kills about 1.4 million young children annually, 99 percent of whom die in developing countries. That’s one child dying every 20 seconds. I was inspired to join the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves because its core mission is saving lives – especially children’slives.”
