Partner Spotlight: Indiegogo
Crowdfunding for Social Impact and Cleaner Cooking with Indiegogo
At Indiegogo, we are dedicated to empowering individuals around the world to fund what matters to them. As the largest global crowdfunding platform, campaigns have launched from almost every country around the world with millions of dollars being distributed every week from contributions made by the Indiegogo community.
Crowdfunding enables experts in development to identify and implement the most effective solutions for the problems they witness every day, and galvanize their communities for support. As part of our work to make that possible, Indiegogo has partnered with established organizations working on the ground in the development space, such as the UN Foundation Energy Access Practitioner Network, IDEO Open, Kiva, and now the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, in order to share best practices and maximize access to the platform’s benefits. With more people involved, more dollars and awareness are raised for development-related projects.
Indiegogo is excited to partner with the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves to provide training and resources to help entrepreneurs launch successful crowdfunding campaigns with the mission to increase adoption of cleaner and more efficient cookstoves and fuels worldwide. Safe, affordable, and accessible clean cooking solutions exist and Indiegogo campaigns, including those already completed by Alliance partners Soluciones Apropiadas and Top Third Ventures, can help to engage with the crowd to raise awareness and funds. We are committed to supporting Alliance partners who are working to increase access to cooking solutions that reduce fuel consumption and exposure to harmful cookstove smoke, while providing economic opportunities in communities around the world.

We’ve seen amazing success in social innovation campaigns geared towards international development initiatives over the past few years as access to the internet, smartphones, and entrepreneurial accelerators has improved on a global scale. As a result, more entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and individuals are utilizing crowdfunding as a mechanism to engage the world in their causes. Crowdfunding campaigns are becoming a tool that empowers entrepreneurs in the developing world to make strategic business decisions (Save Gaza’s Startup Accelerator), attract partners (Chivas Regal Venture), and create dynamic solutions with a direct and meaningful impact on their communities (Wakayama community newspaper). Crowdfunding enables individuals to take matters into their own hands, rather than waiting for aid from NGOs or international financial institutions.
