The Manifesto was signed by over 65 high-level personalities and organisations from across Africa and Europe. Op-Ed: Making Clean Cooking Solutions a Shared Priority In an op-ed for The Africa Report, former President of Ireland and CCA Leadership Council member Mary Robinson joined Africa-Europe Foundation Co-Founder Mo Ibrahim to publish a call to world leaders to rethink how they perceive and prioritize cooking. How Electromagnetic Induction Stoves Are Gaining Traction in Clean Cooking CCA Venture Catalyst company ATEC*, a Pay-As-You-Go clean cooking enterprise, makes the case for why electromagnetic induction stoves will be a leading technology in the clean cooking space by 2030. The Economist: Donors Make It Harder for Africans to Avoid Deadly Wood Smoke The Economist argues that LPG should be part of the journey to net zero emissions, as the alternatives – wood and charcoal – are worse for the environment, for cooks, and for their children. Developing Gender-Responsive Approaches to Electric Cooking in Nepal A report from CCA partner Energia, with support from the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) program, examines findings of a research study in Nepal into how gender issues and norms influence electric cooking uptake. How Climate Investors Can Accelerate Energy Access in Africa Research by Catalyst Off-Grid Advisors suggests that investing in “Decentralized Renewable Energy” solutions such as household solar systems and LPG cookers is a way to reduce emissions while delivering inclusive economic growth in Africa.
Funding Opportunities Support for Clean Household Energy Solutions Toolkit (CHEST) Development The objective of this EOI is to develop important products within WHO’s Clean Household Energy Solutions Toolkit (CHEST). CHEST contains tools and resources to facilitate countries and implementers to develop action plans and policies for the adoption of clean household energy. Market Strengthening Project Support for Clean Cooking Product Development CCA is accepting proposals for provision of Support for Clean Cooking Product Development. This work will provide support to companies developing new or refining existing products to maximize the ability of companies to incorporate user and behavioral insights during the product development lifecycle. Clean Cooking Solutions in Informal Settlements in Sierra Leone With funding from the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the UK government, ICLEI Africa and Energy 4 Impact are looking to fund one energy-based small and medium enterprise or partnership to deliver interventions that can improve clean cooking in Susan’s Bay informal settlement in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Small and Growing Business Fund GroFin, in partnership with Shell Foundation, KfW, Dutch Good Growth Fund, and Norfund, is receiving applications for its Small and Growing Business Fund, totaling over US $100 million. The fund typically provides finance in the form of medium-term loans. The GET.invest Finance Catalyst links renewable energy and clean cooking projects and businesses to finance opportunities and vice versa. It targets small- and medium-scale projects and businesses in sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean. The aim of the Aspire Small Business Fund is to create sustainable employment, economic growth, and social development through the provision of business development assistance, risk finance (US$10,000 to US$100,000), and market linkages to viable, growth-oriented small enterprises.
