Secretary Clinton Congratulates CII for Partnering as a ‘Champion’
“H.E Ms Hillary Clinton, Secretary, US Department of State congratulated the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for pledging strong support on behalf of the business community for partnering with the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves and acting as a ‘Champion’. Ms. Clinton was addressing a gathering of over 300 Women in Chennai today.”
The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves is a new public-private partnership initiative. Led by the United Nations Foundation, it endeavours to save lives, improve livelihoods, empower women, and combat climate change by creating a thriving global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions. The Alliance’s ‘100 by ’20’ goal calls for 100 million homes to adopt clean and efficient stoves and fuels by 2020.”
Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII, pledging support for the initiative said that CII is deeply committed to catalysing a strong industry response for this significant cause.”
CII envisages to bring about widespread awareness on this initiative through its outreach and connects at the grass root level with industry, government and civil society organisations. Through this partnership CII also aims to integrate this cause with many CSR, sustainability, community development, public health projects that its members are undertaking in many parts of the country. As a ‘Champion’ CII also aims to work towards integrating with ongoing programmes for promotion of clean and non-conventional energy, especially in the area of identification and commercialisation of appropriate and affordable technologies.”
