| Clean Cooking Forum 2019 Early Bird Registration Is Now Open |
Registration is now open for the Clean Cooking Forum 2019, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya from November 5-7. The Forum will be co-hosted by the Clean Cooking Alliance and the Kenya Ministry of Energy, with the theme of “Investment. Innovation. Impact.” The Forum will feature interactive plenary and breakout discussions, business-to-business matchmaking, site visits, and an innovation expo showcasing some of the most state-of-the-art clean cooking solutions. | Clean Cooking Alliance Releases 2018 Annual Report |
The Alliance’s Annual Report showcases progress made in 2018 by the Alliance and its partners. The report highlights major milestones and trends, and features voices from across the clean cooking sector.

Applications are now open for the Alliance’s 2019 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award, which recognizes outstanding female leaders in the household energy sector working to advance clean cooking solutions in emerging markets. Applicants may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. Winners will receive opportunities for sponsorship and recognition.

| Cooking #WithRefugees |
| On World Refugee Day, the Alliance highlighted the work of two of its grantees, Inyenyeri and the Gaia Association. These two organizations, based in Rwanda and Ethiopia respectively, are not only working to provide clean cooking solutions to refugees, but also to engage their refugee partners as customers, producers, and distributors. These and other conversations on humanitarian energy needs were the focus of the SAFE Workshop and first-ever Humanitarian Energy Conference that took place from July 29 – August 1 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. |

A study conducted by North Carolina State University, funded by the Alliance and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition, shows that advanced biomass stoves used with pellets can cut pollutant emissions by 90 percent, nearing gas stove performance. The study was conducted in Rwanda, where 98 percent of the population relies on firewood and charcoal for cooking.

| What Do Standards Mean To You? |
Over 70 stakeholders from 11 African countries convened in Kampala, Uganda for a workshop hosted by the Alliance and the World Health Organization (WHO) to discuss the role of standards in driving access to clean cooking.

Two events at this year’s World Health Assembly in Geneva took on the challenging but critical topic of intersections between global energy access and health. The Alliance participated in the launch of the Health and Energy Platform of Action, led by the World Health Organization and the UN Development Programme, and also co-hosted an official side event with Powering Health Care to highlight the benefits of coordination between the health and energy sectors.

On July 3rd, Ashden recognized the 10 winners of the 2019 Ashden Awards, including Sistema.bio, the winner of the inaugural Clean Cooking Award. Based in Mexico, Sistema.bio produces prefabricated biodigesters that can transform organic waste into clean, renewable energy and a powerful fertilizer.

| MECS Launches New eCookBook |
The Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) Program published the “Kenya eCookBook: Beans and Cereals Edition,” the first of a series of eCookBooks designed to support Kenyan cooks in how to make more informed choices about the fuels and appliances they use at home. The focus is on electricity and the time and money that could be saved by switching from other fuels.

GroFin, in partnership with Shell Foundation, KfW, Dutch Good Growth Fund, and Norfund are reviewing applications for a first-of-its-kind, uncapped, and unlimited-life fund to support small and growing businesses in Africa. Applications must be submitted by 31 December 2021.
