Alliance Announces Photo Contest
When: The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves Photo Contest opens Wednesday November 6th, 2013 and closes on Friday December 20th, 2013 at 11:59pm EST.
Who: The 2013 Alliance Photo Contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers at least 18 years of age, except for the Alliance Secretariat and the staff of the United Nations Foundation. (see complete rules on eligibility )
Prizes: Cash prizes will be awarded to four (4) winners as follows: one Grand Prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the single best photo, regardless of category, submitted to the Contest. One prize of $500 will be awarded to each of the three (3) category winners.
What: The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (Alliance) invites partners, stakeholders, and others to submit original images depicting the impact of clean cooking solutions (cookstoves, fuels, heat retention cookers, cookware, or other equipment) around the world. These images can represent any aspect of the cooking experience including use of traditional solid fuels, gathering fuels, and utilization of clean cooking solutions. Submissions must be entered under one of three (3) categories:
- Category 1: Cookstove and Fuels Users and Cooking Scenarios
These images tell the personal side of the cookstove and fuels story and demonstrate the improved and clean cooking solutions being used by consumers. Images of the problem of inefficient and dangerous cooking practices are also welcomed in this category. These could include: use of traditional cookstoves/fuels or open fires, wood/fuel gathering, impact on children and women, burns and injuries, etc. - Category 2: Manufacturing, Distribution and Retail
Images that demonstrate the clean cooking value chain in action. This could include: factory and assembly-line scenarios; procurement of supplies and parts; loading and unloading of transportation; marketplaces; clean cooking businesses, etc. - Category 3: The Sector at Work
Images in this category could include: monitoring and evaluation activities like surveys and interviews; cookstove trainings; regional testing and knowledge centers at work; community events that have live demonstrations or informational/educational aspects; the use of innovative technologies, including mobile phones; and the integration of clean cooking solutions with other household energy and/or sanitation interventions etc.
How to Enter: All submissions must be emailed to cleancookingphotocontest@gmail.com. The submission email must contain the entrant’s full name, country of citizenship and residence and return email address. Photos must be submitted as camera-made digital images. Each photo must be accompanied, either in the file name or in the submission email, by a written indication of the place and country where, and the approximate date when, such photo was taken, as well as the Contest category or categories in which the photo is being entered.
Photos must be submitted in JPEG, GIF or PNG format, must be at least 2 Megabytes [and not more than 5 Megabytes] in size, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image). Photos may be black and white or color images. Each entrant may submit up to two (2) photos. The same photo may be entered in more than one category, but each entry of a photograph in a category will count against the two (2) photo limit. Those that submit more than two photos will be disqualified.
Judging: Entries will be judged and contest winners selected by the Alliance Secretariat. Entries will be judged on the basis of relevance to the Contest category, originality, technical quality and artistic merit.
Legal Conditions: By entering the contest, you must agree to the Official Rules. Entry of photographs into the Contest implies acceptance of Official Rules.
