G20 Report Features Clean Cooking and the Alliance Model
The G20 Leaders’ Summit has just concluded in Antalya, Turkey. Heads of State discussed action on a wide array of pressing issues, including the critical role of energy access in sustainable development. The Leaders' Communiqué released after the Summit specifically mentions the challenge of billions of people around the world who still rely on solid fuels and inefficient cooking methods to prepare their meals.
Ahead of the G20 Summit, the Alliance had been contributing to the dialogue around effective sustainable development approaches that address the massive need for clean cooking. In October, the Alliance contributed its perspective to partners engaged in the G20 Energy Ministers meeting, where members adopted the G20 Energy Access Action Plan: Voluntary Collaboration on Energy Access.
This month, the official G20 report released ahead of the Leaders’ Summit showcased the Alliance’s approach and achievements. Starting on page 140, the article discusses the contribution of clean cooking to sustainable development and highlights the Alliance’s role in creating a thriving market for clean and efficient cookstoves and fuels. The piece also lays out specific steps the G20 can implement to catalyze the clean cooking sector and sustainable development across the board.
Moving forward, the G20 and other multilateral initiatives will play a key role in creating an enabling environment for the clean cooking market and ensuring the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7 on Energy.
