Indoor Air Pollution: National Burden Of Disease Estimates

The World Health Organization has assessed, for
the first time, the burden of disease from indoor air
pollution at the national level. The approach relies on
three ingredients:
1. Percentage of population using biomass fuels and
coal, by country;
2. Deaths and DALYs for ALRI, COPD and lung cancer,
by age group and country; and
3. Relative risk of ALRI, COPD and lung cancer when
exposed to indoor air pollution.
All data were obtained for 2002 or the latest available
year.
