Solid fuel use – health effect

This article presents an overview of global and regional
household energy practices, considers the composition
of biomass smoke and coal smoke as well as
associated pollutant concentrations and personal exposure,
and reviews the evidence linking indoor air
pollution to a variety of health outcomes. Based on the
assessment of the burden of disease attributable to indoor
air pollution from solid fuel use, it discusses the public
health significance of this environmental health risk and
its broader consequences for economic development and
environmental sustainability in developing countries.
