Other Organizational Expertise
African Entrepreneurial Network(AEN) through partnership with Alternative Waste Technologies (AWT) and women-led community groups in Busia County, Nambale Constituency seeks to empower women groups in the use of briquettes as an alternative source of clean fuel for the residents of Busia.
Technologies & Fuels
Biomass (Ag. Residue, Processed Biomass, etc.), Crop residues
Other Technologies Fuels
Over 90 percent of the population in Busia County in Kenya rely on traditional stoves and fuels despite the health impact associated with it such as pneumonia among children under the age of 5 and lung cancer among the adults. Women and children are mainly tasked with gathering fuel wood which has a significant opportunity cost, limiting them the opportunity to improve their education and engage in income-generating activities.
Clean Cooking Activities
The project will establish one big production unit at Nambale Magnet School (NMS), in Nambale town in Busia County in Kenya where the facility will be used as a model to induct the women groups into distributed sales business model. This will help the project in establishing a steady client base in the entire Busia County. Once the market is well established, the women will be empowered with Machines to produce briquettes on behalf of the project meeting the standards and specifications determined in the partnership.
Partnership
We will have a competitive edge where we are approaching the business through a franchising model where we empower the rural women and youths to become sales agents, once they have established a steady market, they will then be equipped with a machine to enable them directly produce the briquettes to meet the market demand according to the business standards of operations and procedures. This method of empowerment is different because it ensured consistent support to the groups all through to enable them master the business skills effectively and address any challenges that may arise during the engagement process.
