Clean Cooking Activities
Africare has been promoting the construction of two plate mud rocket stoves using locally available materials in rural in Malawi that use lesser amounts of wood. Using two plates on one stove reduces cooking time as opposed to 3 stone open fires. Rocket chimneys also reduce risk of soot inhalation and risk of pneumonitis.
Partnership
Africare will partner with private or public organizations that have manufactured and piloted clean cookstoves in humanitarian settings elsewhere but lack capacity to scale up the roll out of their innovations to this part the world due to either lack of point of contacts or knowledge of the demand. Africare will facilitate the adaptation of previously tested and piloted cooking technologies in Malawi and the region through social marketing, community mobilization at grass roots and policy advocacy for clean cookstoves. While people of concern are more vulnerable Africare envisions the roll out of the clean cooking technology innovations beyond humanitarian settings to help transform the cooking technologies in the general community beyond the project life span
