Clean Cooking Activities

® ASA Initiative has been working in a collaborative research project†Agricultural and Environmental Benefits of Biochar use in ACP countries®  (BeBi Project) European Union/ACP Technology Programme with University of Udine, Italy, as a Lead Partner (See www.bebiproject.org).

To date the team has been able to develop under the project, a clean cook stove called Elsa Stove, Elsa Pellet and ® Elsa Palm Kennel Shells as clean fuel from biomass for the stove. Elsa Stove is patented and has ISO Certification and tested with less emission from biomass.
The clean cook stove technology has been developed with the local people and thus fits into the local cooking needs and culture.

Demand has already been established for Ghana and is approximately 10 million households since the stove cooks faster and longer than all other stoves with cheaper or zero cost ® of fuel in the face of increasing cost of LPG gas and improved indoor air quality. ®

The primary target is women household within the rural communities that depend so much on the traditional cook stoves with a lot of indoor air pollution with its health hazards. The secondary targets includes urban and peri-urban households especially women whose additional source of fuel for cooking (wood and charcoal) come from the forest in the rural areas through the rural households.® The two categories of targeted population has been involved in the development of the Elsa Stove over the past three years.

The Elsa Stove/biochar technology will be replicated in the whole of Africa through BeBi Project partnership relationship with African Union and ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE).

Partnership

My organization has experience in working with the women groups, rural communities, farmers and the local people. It also has team with skills in energy microfinance to the rural communities to scale up outreach. With demonstrable skills in capacity building for stove producers of artisans and young graduates from Technical Schools and stove users, ASA Initiative will help develop and improve the production and distribution chain of Elsa Stove and fuel to enable over 10 million households have access in Ghana and promote replications to the rest of African through BeBi Project partnership with African Union and ECREE.
