Clean Cooking Activities
In 2015, BBC Media Action launched a health project in Ethiopia designed to respond to health risks caused by indoor air pollution. The aim of the project is to improve awareness and knowledge of health impacts caused by traditional cooking methods, lighting and heating practices. We developed a new radio drama and a series of public service announcements in the Afan-Oromo language. These programmes focus on the barriers to demanding cleaner technologies focusing on family decision making when it comes to practical action in the home.
Partnership
BBC Media Action is the international development charity of the BBC. We currently run projects in Ethiopia (primarily through radio), that reach an audience of over 21 million. We have a new project focusing on clean cooking stoves (primarily focusing on generating awareness and discussion of the health benefits) and are keen to pursue partnerships with the Global Alliance to scale up this work.
