Clean Cooking Activities
Women of the local community travel about 3 kilometers into the forest in search of wood for cooking activities in a community where traditional meals are cooked for about 2 hours as revealed by the studies we carried out in four local communities in Buea, Cameroon. while others deforest for cooking fuel, some use kerosene and other cooking gases which are expensive to acquire and dangerous to health.
The problem associated with cooking fuel is not only suffered by the local women in the community of Fako but it is an issue suffered by refugees, internally displaced persons and the physically challenged who live on less than $5 per day.
Cameroon OIC Buea, a human resource development non-profit making organization with the goal of improving the livelihoods of persons living in its community is interested in Clean Cooking Devices which will discourage deforestation, reduce green gas emission, create employment, eradicate poverty and improve the living standards of members of the community.
In the light of the above an Italian NGO "Donne Africa ONLUS" in partnership with the University of Udine, Italy transferred the technology of ELSA Clean Cooking Stove to Cameroon OIC, Buea through a training programme led by members of the University of Udine in the year 2016. As a result 50 clean cooking stoves were produced and distributed to for women of these communities as an alternative cooking method that uses kernel shell, crop residues and other biomass.
Partnership
We would like to produce and distribute the Clean Cooking Stove. We already have trained personnel (manpower) in the production of the stove from design conception to realization. We also have ready infrastructure (building) to accommodate light to heavy industrial equipment which would be employed for the production of the stoves and land for any necessary expansion. Our Centre would also be the responsible for collecting and packaging biomass (fuel) from the community especially from local industries and smallholders of palm oil production.
